Explore Updated Civic Learning Policies, State by State
The CivxNow team conducts an annual scan of state policies impacting civic education. Each year, these results demonstrate progress being made at the state level and serve as a valuable resource for legislators, policymakers, school administrators, advocates, and others.
This year's annual state policy scan is live, showing significant progress in civics policy across the country. This year's results reveal key trends, from a jump in high school civics requirements to a surge in professional development for educators.
A new report from Leadership Ohio, Join In: Revitalizing Civic Life, offers a powerful solution for strengthening democracy: simply joining together. While rooted in the Buckeye State, its findings and recommendations can be applied more broadly, providing actionable guidance for communities, families, and educators.
Coalition Member Spotlight: National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL)
The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) is a key partner that provides state legislators and staff with nonpartisan policy research and resources. NCSL has prioritized civic learning in their work, empowering their members with the tools and information they need to support civic education.
The iCivics state policy team was thrilled to celebrate NCSL’s 50th anniversary at their Legislative Summit in Boston. The summit was a true catalyst, allowing us to deepen relationships with longtime champions and gain new allies for civic education.
